Hosted business solutions: First year on the Purple Cloud

Established in 1790, Edwards and Godding Ltd is one of the original five Aga cooker distributors appointed in England in 1932. A family-run business, Edwards and Godding has three outlets and covers the south of England. Ed Sturgess, the company’s Operations Manager, explains why he chose LETN’s Purple Cloud hosted solution a year ago.
“We needed to do something about the technology we had: different types of PC were running lots of different operating systems. We were even using hotmail for our email - not great for the company image! As Operations Manager, I was in charge of troubleshooting IT issues but this was difficult and time-consuming. I worried about the image of the company and worried about time it took to manage our IT. Security was also a big concern: we didn’t have any backup processes in place. It was clear that something had to be done. “I approached four different IT suppliers and preferred LETN right from the off. Dealing with Steve was easy and I liked the fact they were local. LETN took all the hassle away from me and made me feel it was all going to be OK. They explained everything all the options to me, including a hosted solution with hardware off-site, or one with hardware on-site. We decided on the hosted solution as it meant everything would be backed up securely off-site. “Any teething problems were sorted quickly and easily. The user experience is still a little slower than it would be with an on-site solution, but I think the benefits outweigh this.” A great base for enhanced IT solutions “Having a good IT base allows you to start thinking about other solutions. We’ve recently implemented a CRM system, which would have been a nightmare with the system we were using before. This in turn allows us to improve customer service. It’s a good example of how a solid IT base like Purple Cloud allows staff to think about how they can use technology to improve their jobs.” Purple Cloud - one year on “We’ve been using LETN’s Purple Cloud hosted solution for a year now. It’s been a very positive experience. Initially some staff found the changes difficult to get used to but they quickly adapted to having better and more reliable technology - and expectations have start to rise about how IT can make their jobs easier. For example, using Microsoft Outlook we can now send texts to our engineers. This just wouldn’t have been possibly with the system we were using before. There’s now a real sense of cohesion. Because everyone’s using the same system, I don’t have to troubleshoot a myriad of problems. LETN deal with any problems, anyway! “The LETN support line is fantastic. They have never referred to any service levels of agreement, which is different to other companies I’ve dealt with. They understand that we have business-critical issues and just get on with it there and then. I never get the sense they have bigger or more important clients. “I can’t sing the praises of LETN’s support enough - it’s great, and definitely worth the money we pay! The sheer amount of time it saves me is fantastic. “I was initially impressed by Steve and his team at LETN, and have been impressed throughout our relationship. LETN are easy to deal with and the technical guys know what they’re talking about.” |
