Purple Cloud: the flexible and reactive hosted server solution
Specialist HR and Consultancy providers Osborne Richardson provided LETN with a meaty challenge when they requested a hosted server solution. Osborne Richardson comprises two companies operating from one office and sharing a network. In addition there are two overseas offices and several homeworkers who need real-time access to the central system. Sian Gardiner, Osborne Richardson’s IT and Telecoms Manager explains how LETN’s Purple Cloud solution provided the flexible answer to a diverse challenge. “We’d been hosting everything in-house, on old servers. We were constantly having to upgrade our software, because our servers just weren’t coping with the number of hungry applications we were running. It was clear that we had to overhaul our entire infrastructure, but it wasn’t until LETN were recommended to us that we knew we’d found the solution. “The Purple Cloud hosted server solution seemed a sensible way to save time and money whilst providing all our employees with the IT access they need. They were constantly maxing out and we didn’t know how much space or memory we needed. The first thing LETN had to do was stabilise the existing environment and then establish what we needed before we migrated over to the Purple Cloud. The LETN team had to be flexible and reactive and constantly reassess our needs; it just wouldn’t have worked if there’d been a “one size fits all model”. Happily for us, LETN fitted the Purple Cloud model around the way we work. “LETN understood from the word go that the consequences of each step had to be carefully considered. Downtime just isn’t an option for us. They made sure that we were always able to roll it back a step if we needed to, and this gave us confidence. The entire project was managed very well, with great levels of communication. We got to know the core team very quickly and they were very responsive to any issues, queries or uncertainties we had. Double memory or server space instantly “All of Osborne Richardson’s IT has now been migrated across to the Purple Cloud system hosted by LETN. It has exceeded our hopes and needs. Last week, for instance, we suddenly had to double the amount of memory we had access to. On our in-house system, this would have been a nightmare: we would have had to purchase and install a new server, costing us money and engineering time. With Purple Cloud, all it took was the flick of a switch. We doubled the size of our server instantly. “The Purple Cloud platform has made my life as IT Manager here a lot easier! Any user can log onto the system and post issues for the LETN team to pick up, so I can get as involved - or stand as far back - as I want to. The response time is great, and you can also pick up the phone for an update, so there are multiple channels of communication. “Since migrating to the hosted system, we’ve opened up another satellite office in the UK. Being on the Purple Cloud made this so simple: once we’d hired the serviced office, everything was set up and operational within two days. All we needed was a PC and internet connection.
